About Part B giveback plans
A Part B giveback is a feature of some Medicare Advantage plans: the plan pays part of your Medicare Part B premium. You see it as a smaller premium deduction from your Social Security payment, not as a separate check.
If a state Medicaid program already pays your Part B premium, for example through a Medicare Savings Program, a giveback plan gives you nothing extra.
What to check before you choose
- Giveback plans can have higher out-of-pocket limits, higher copays, or smaller networks. Compare total yearly costs, not just the premium.
- The reduction can take a few months to show up in your Social Security payment.
- The giveback amount is set by each plan and can change from year to year.
