About dental coverage
Original Medicare does not cover most routine dental care. Many Medicare Advantage plans add dental benefits, from cleanings and X-rays (preventive) to fillings, crowns, and dentures (comprehensive), usually up to a yearly dollar limit.
What to check before you choose
- Most plans cap dental spending each year. Costs above the cap are yours.
- Major work such as crowns or dentures often has coinsurance, waiting periods, or limits on how often it is covered.
- You may need to use dentists in the plan's network.
